I want to tell you something that most car platforms won’t admit.
Buying a car is genuinely stressful. Not because cars are complicated. Not because financing is hard to understand. It’s stressful because the whole experience was designed around the dealer, not you. You walk onto a lot, or open a website, and you’re immediately met with filters, trims, invoice prices, and a sea of listings that all look the same. You spend hours doing research you’re not sure how to apply, and somewhere between the first test drive and the finance office, you stop feeling like a buyer and start feeling like a mark.
That’s the problem we decided to fix.
It Started With a Conversation
Instacars didn’t start with a product brief or a pitch deck. It started with a conversation I kept having with friends, with family, with people who’d just gone through the car buying process and came out the other side feeling like they’d been through something.
The recurring theme wasn’t price. It was clarity. Nobody felt like they actually understood what they were choosing, or why. They just got to the end and hoped for the best.
I kept thinking: this is a massive purchase. One of the biggest most people make. And there’s no one in their corner actually helping them figure it out.
That’s when the idea clicked. What if you could just talk to someone? Not a salesperson with a quota. Not a chatbot that asks “Would you like to book a test drive?” before you’ve even told it what kind of car you want. Someone who actually listens, asks the right questions, and helps you get to a decision you feel good about.
That’s Kaia (Automotive Intelligence).
What Instacars Actually Is
Instacars is an AI-powered car buying platform built for people who want to find and purchase the right car without the usual friction.
At the center of it is Kaia, our AI. You don’t start by filtering. You start by talking. You tell Kaia what your life looks like, your commute, your family, your budget, how much you care about cargo space versus fuel economy, and Kaia helps you figure out what actually fits.
It’s not a search engine. It’s not a filter tool with a chat window bolted on. It’s a full discovery experience, built from the ground up to put the buyer first.
We also work with dealers. When a car from a dealership matches what you’re looking for, it shows up. Dealers who are part of the Instacars network can promote their listings, which means their inventory surfaces when it’s actually relevant, not just because they paid for a banner.
Two things we’re building toward:
- A consumer marketplace where you can find, decide on, and purchase a car, delivered to you.
- A version of Kaia that lives on dealership websites, helping their customers the same way.
Both sides share the same north star: make car buying feel less like a game you’re losing, and more like a decision you’re making.
Why AI, and Why Now
There’s a lot of noise right now about AI. Every product has an “AI feature.” Most of them are gimmicks.
Kaia isn’t a feature. The whole product is built around her. The reason that matters is because car buying isn’t a lookup problem. It’s a judgment problem. It requires understanding context, weighing trade-offs, and knowing when to ask a follow-up question instead of just returning a list of results.
That’s what conversational AI is genuinely good at. When it’s done right.
We didn’t want to build another car listing site. There are plenty of those. We wanted to build the experience that happens before you look at listings. The part where you figure out what you actually want. The part that, right now, usually doesn’t exist at all.
What We Believe
A few things guide how we build Instacars:
Everyone deserves access to a premium experience. If you have a relationship with a dealer who respects you, knows what you want, and doesn’t waste your time, buying a car is easy. That experience shouldn’t be reserved for people who’ve been buying cars from the same family dealership for thirty years. It should be the default.
Transparency is a feature. We’re not interested in building a platform that makes money by keeping buyers confused. Every decision we make about how Instacars works should make the buyer more informed, not less.
The best car for you isn’t always the most expensive one. Or the newest. Or the one with the highest margin. Kaia’s job is to find the right fit, full stop.
What We’re Still Figuring Out
We’re just getting started, but we’re building with purpose.
We’re still building. There are things Kaia does brilliantly and things we’re still working on. There are features on our roadmap that we’re excited about and a few we’ve scrapped because they weren’t serving the buyer the way we intended.
But the core idea, that buying a car should feel like getting advice from someone who genuinely knows their stuff and actually cares about your outcome. That part we’re sure about.
A Note to Dealers
If you’re a dealership reading this, I want to be direct with you too.
We’re not building a platform to cut you out. We’re building a platform that sends you buyers who are ready. Buyers who’ve already had the confusing part of the process handled for them. Buyers who show up knowing what they want and why.
That’s a better lead than anything a generic listing site delivers. We think there’s a version of this that works well for everyone, and we’d love to talk.
Thank You
To everyone who has talked to Kaia, given us feedback, shared what broke, or just told a friend about Instacars, thank you.
We’re building something we genuinely believe in. And we’re just getting started.
